Oh Buddha, where art thou?
March 4th, 2006
At that Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter, actually. The Radiant Buddha exhibition has an oddly calming air to it. It runs until April 14.
This is the listings, the what’s on, or some other pithily titled section of the blog.
Access All Areas, an interactive music exhibition is at Plymouth City Museum until May 6.
Starting today at the Plymouth City Museum is a collection of prints from Edward McCarten. And on Friday there is an exhibition of photos from Patrick Shanahan.
Also on Friday, at the Exeter Albert (the museum to you) is a look at the science of colour, Bursting with Colour.
The Spacex, Exeter, will be showing what promises to be a haunting series of works by Ori Gersht, called The Clearing - mix primeval forest in the Ukraine, with a refuge from the Nazis and a notion of a disappearing world. It starts on Saturday.
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Bovey Tracey, will be showing the furniture workings of Guy Marin in Whole Life Coast. Saturday until April 23.
Who says Cabaret is dead? Who thinks it should be? And what’s the difference between Cabaret and Variety anyway? If you’ve missed the Variety show at Babbacombe you might be interested in Tarquin’s Closet cabaret at the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth, Saturday. The night sounds a powerful romp of dance, drama, high emotion, gags and what not from lesbian, gay, bi and transexual performers.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. On Monday and Tuesday at the Exeter Phoenix is Hotel Methuselah - film noir stylings with a mixed media approach (apparently they’ll show bits of film during the play).
At the Barbican, Plymouth, on Friday is Crush - Jane Austen plus boys and drugs and London and the ’80s.
From Tuesday to Sunday at the Northcott Theatre, Exeter, is showing a comedy about people and their manners and it’s called Mammals.
Now that should fill your week. Remember, this isn’t exhaustive. There are loads of things going on around South Devon. Pop in King Ludd’s, for example, or visit the website (see the links) to see what’s going on there next. Other community projects, plays, displays and so on would be quite welcome. And you know there’ll be someone new at the Eyestorm Gallery on Exeter Quay this week.
If you go and would like to send us a review, or you’re involved in any other project, write to us here.
