Everything’s coming up Rosa

April 1st, 2006

The doyenne of the Weimar Republic, Rosa Luxemburg, as every GCSE history student knows, was a great lover of rugby union. And she would have been ‘well pleased’ to witness an all-South Devon affair in the Devon Cup final.

Exmouth beat Torquay, but what really is impressive is the way sporting clubs have engaged with the community and developed strong youth programmes. Whereas health and fitness are real issues (privatisation of school canteens anyone?) we shouldn’t overlook the commitment people have made to ensure youngsters get the opportunity to play, enjoy and improve in sport across the board. And it’s something in which South Devon excels.
