If you go down to the woods today

Is it ironic that one of the lasting legacies of a great industrialist is his garden.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary (yes, there will be a lot of these) of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s birth, Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust has arranged for volunteers to maintain the garden/woodland that was to be his refuge in retirment. Brunel Woods is at Watcombe, near Torquay overlooking St Marychurch.

Hard work in the open air is good for the soul. The day starts at 10am and finishes at 3pm. It should be quite atmospheric (smirk).

For more on the charity’s events and volunteer days call 01803 606035.
