Listen up
This week, shoppers in Plymouth’s glamorous city centre are being encouraged to break the sound barrier.
Don’t worry – it’s got nothing to do with Anthony Hopkins speaking in a silly Australian voice and everything to do with Deaf Awareness Week.
From 10am and 3pm on Saturday, May 6, Plymouth’s proles will be invited to take the RNID’s telephone hearing check. Apparently there are four million people in the UK who could benefit from sporting a hearing aid, but are doing nothing
about it.
That’s why staff from RNID, who represent the UK’s nine million deaf and hard of hearing people, will be asking people to dial 0845 600 5555 and take the simple five-minute hearing check.
It’s all part of Breaking The Sound Barrier (see what they’ve done there? Not really, but anyway), a new RNID campaign to change perceptions of hearing loss and hearing aids.
But what if your hearing’s actually pretty good? Well, you can always just turn up and pretend you’re getting a dirty phone call from R2-D2.
