A star is born

Hollywood, Bollywood or just plain Haldon Wood, Exeter is about to have its very own feature film. Producer Adrian Lowe was kind enough to take time out of his pre-Cannes deals to give us a few words on how things are progressing. Apparently, they’re still looking for stars, so take my advice and brush up your Shakespeare. . .“In March, Andy Robinson (director) and me, with the help of a fantastic bunch of helpers, set up a full reading of a feature film [the Forewarning] screenplay, which is to be shot entirely in Exeter through summer 2007.

The day enabled us to hear the piece from a different perspective than our own, and gave us some excellent development ideas.

We now have on board an ever-growing group of volunteers helping with projects such as designing our own website, publicity, fundraising and a hole host of tasks connected to making a no-budget feature film.

Our next stage is the actual first audition. This is taking place on Saturday, June 24, at The Phoenix Media Centre, Exeter (with thanks to them for their help).

We have a wide selection of roles available in this feature, and while we cannot offer any payment, we can offer the experience, and the credit associated with working on such a project.

If anybody reading this would like to become involved with this fantastic local project, either as cast, crew, caterer, sponsor, please drop me an email at TheForewarning@hotmail.com and I will send you more details.

I will of course give the PRSD more detail, and a progress update as and when I have more to tell.’

The performance scene - computer showing the webcast and submitted videos in the foreground

If phrases like ‘performance art’ and ‘audience participation’ leave you with a face like you’d been sucking lemons (or reading about the latest shenanigans of our elected officials), then you should have got yourself down to watch the Blind Ditch performance at Exeter Phoenix on Saturday.

Combining submitted video footage with the performance and a live web broadcast, with cuttings, writings, and pictures strewn around the room as well as the plans for the show, you not only watch, but you become part of the decision-making process - the ascent, or is it decent, into political action.

And seeing as the show is called Who Wants to be a Hero Now, and poses the question what action would you take to make the world a better place, it was all rather fitting.

Fascinating and involving, it was - whatever your approach, you could take something away.

Log onto their website to be at least part of the solution - well, watch the videos anyway.

It was part of an equally fascinating (well, according to the blurb) tEXt festival. It would have been better if they’d managed to do more publicity of the other events that were taking place. But, if you can, at least visit the Phoenix to read the children’s tales of monsters and maps.
