Health, health, health
Come on Charles Clarke, we’ve all used that ‘control freak’ ‘psychological problem‘ argument, usually at the end of a relationship. . . wait a minute!
Nevertheless, this threatened power vacuum/tempest - depending on which way you look at it - offers up the chance to re-examine some of the New Labour policies.
We’ve got wind that the Socialist Health Association, you know, those who think health care should be defo free, etc are: “proposing a change to Clause 4 of the constitution of the Labour Party deleting the waffle which was put in there in 1994 to make it clearer that fairness and equality is the central aim of the Labour Party.”
We’re assuming the waffle is a ‘bad thing’ because there will be a symposium (doesn’t that mean there’s a brass band) on Inequality under Labour, on Monday, September 25, from noon to 7.30pm (in Manchester) with an “exciting” range of speakers including Prof Sheena Asthana of the University of Plymouth (start your cheering now!).
Also, rolling into Exeter on October 28 will be one of the series of seminars about future health policy and the Labour Party National Policy Forum consultation document on health.
“We hope to get speakers both from those who want to Keep Our NHS Public and from those who think that more choice and marketisation is the way forward,” said Martin Rathfelder, director of the Socialist Health Association. So go along, but try not to snigger at the Labour Party candidate.
