While the rest of those moaning minnies bleat on about the pound, Johnny Foreigner and an excess of Eastern Europeans, take a moment to really think about what the European Union means, not two days after the sub post office people had their 4 million signatures and their march.
What it really means on one hand is a half-hearted increased provision of social legislation – paternity leave for example, versus the opting out of the working time directive. And then there’s the opening up for competition of all manner of things transport is one, and oh, postal services is another. I won’t go into all the gubbins as to why rural communities suffer, but suffer they do. Monetary policy is alive and kicking and beating at the heart of what should be an organisation to promote communities and diversity.
Oh, and guess which organisation I suspect is behind ID cards, too. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not anti-Europe but I am anti easy free market solutions, especially as it means loss of services and jobs.
Shucks, now where’s the punch-line? Ah yes: UKIP.
