PRSD - coming in your ears

Last night, we at the PRSD shrugged off our air of leftist smuggery, in order to swing our pants at the very first Melting Pot Session. Oh yes!

A super-sexy shindig recorded at an exclusive venue with top musical turns and an invite-only audience, last night’s event saw ramalama rockers Nixon And The Burn tearing the region a new bumhole (in a purely metaphorical sense), as they clattered through a brilliantly-rowdy set of power-pop.

They also found time to answer some questions from organiser Nikki Portus, covering everything from the drummer’s imminent dismissal, performing with Muse at Eden, and, erm, how they started the holocaust. Ah, that old chestnut.

As proceedings drew to a close, we had a lovely yap with Nixon’s guitarist (who looked like that guy from Young Knives and may, or may not, have been called Ad Five) who seemed chuffed to be kicking off the event.

We also met the guys from Supenik (stars of the next Melting Pot event) who clearly couldn’t wait to get involved, promising a bounty of QOTSA-inspired, swamp-rockin’ thrills at the next sesh. Can’t wait!

We made our (pretty feeble) excuses at 11pm and braved the fog to make our way home. Captn, however, stayed til the wee-hours of the morning - moving, shaking and saying ‘Bol-bear’ to anyone who would listen.

In short, it was a wicked night. Hey, why not listen for yourself? We’re gonna be posting the event’s highlights on the PRSD in the next few hours. There’ll be photos too. It’s a veritable multimedia experience!

And if you’re still gasping for more, tune in on Saturday for another Something For The Weekend, featuring the region’s best unsigned bands. Previous posts have boasted the likes of Glass Shark, Full Speed Alone and The Quails. Check the archive to find anything you’ve missed.

Hell, why not buy a PRSD ethical T-shirt while you’re at it? After all, it’s all good, when you’re in the People’s Republic hood. Laters.

Anubis would happen

Is it a rabbit or what?Donnie Darko eat your heart out, this year’s Christmas hit (well almost) will be Heather Tweed’s furry faced friends, which are making an appearance at the Exeter Phoenix from November 10 to December 21. They are all part of the Anubis Other World Tour and feature that famed Egyptian god of the underworld in contemporary settings - when this ‘god’ starts writing a ‘cutting edge’ blog, let me know.
