If you were thinking of sending a cow to Kenya for Christmas, then don’t (you’ve probably missed the last posting date, too). What do you give someone who has far too much? Why something produced by local artists, designer/makers, of course – it shows thought, individuality and keeps the money in the region while supporting the arts (and let’s not forget the artists). Kook-rockers Fatlab played Melting Pot last night, and we’re pleased to confirm the proceedings were largely free of insufferable wackiness. This year’s School’s Exhibition from the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts will be opening at the Cube 3 Gallery, Plymouth on Thursday, December 7 to Thursday, January 11. Entitled Our Environment the youngsters’ art could open some eyes. Then again maybe it won’t. Check it out and get back to us. Posted Yet again, the local press is wagging a finger at the availability of fake or replica guns. This isn’t the first time fake fire arms have been brought to our attention but I wonder whether the real issue has been overlooked. Why are these guns made to look so authentic in the first place? Melting Pot is back, back, back this week, with a beezer performance from Fatlab in the ‘offing’. We’ve just been on Fatlab’s MySpace site and, in our humble opinion, the night promises to be either utter genius or fackin gash. Still, keeps fings exciting, don’t it? Fancy coming along? Course you bloody do. Just drop us We are lucky here in the People’s Republic for so many reasons, and one of those reasons is that out of the five flagships museums in the South West, we have two of them, and what’s more, more people are going to them. Ah Christmas. . . parties, get-togethers and popping in to people’s houses to drop the presents off and catch up – all accompanied, if you’re as sophisticated as us here in the People’s Republic, with snowballs galore (sans glace cherries – come on, give us some credit). Regular readers of the People’s Republic could be forgiven for assuming the This Is Exeter website is pretty much beyond parody. Sprawling, right-wing and frequently proper fucking surreal, This Is Exeter is a constant source of piss-taking fun during slow news days at PRSD Towers. There just aren’t enough fairtrade goods to go around, apparently. The recent claims that youthful anti-social behaviour is reaching worrying proportions suggests people are scared to approach youths – and often their own kids.
