They came, they saw, they conquered! The Romans? Err, kinda. But I’m thinking of MED Theatre, who just over 18 years ago set up their company on the moor. And, barely recovered from the hangover of celebrating the modern coming of age, they will be touring Devon with Cassiterides – The Romans on Dartmoor play.
And how did this teenage community-based theatre group celebrate its birthday? Like any good youngster it developed an education programme.
Artistic director Mark Beeson told the PRSD: “From its earliest days MED Theatre has had a special place for young people in its outlook. Our transgenerational [that’s lots of different ages to the rest of us non-theatrical types] community plays have featured young people and their concerns from the outset.
“The new education programme represents a natural development of MED Theatre’s passion for looking to the future and its commitment to integrating rural aspirations with those of urban areas.
“Through the education programme we aim to take the interpretation of Dartmoor and the universal topics and issues it raises to a wider community and to inspire a rising generation with new ways of regarding their local environment.â€
And in the last 12 months its website has attracted just 1,464 new visitors - now’s your chance to be 1,465!
