If you want to discover the power hip-hop can have to excite, question and beguile then you’d be well advised to hop over to the the hippest of them all, Ursula Rucker, who’s only UK appearance in a world-wide tour is at the Exeter Phoenix as part of the Virbraphoinic festival, on Monday.
Rucker’s stark stories, powerful prose and mystical music has marked her out as one to watch, and there’s already a buzz that this hard hitter is happening along to the People’s Republic, squeezing in our small state between gigs in Singapore and Slovenia.
Criticism of the US government, fellow hip hoppers and a fine line in social commentary have shown her to be a strong and independent spirit with an individual voice.
Fearless, contemporary, and hey, let’s face it, cool, catch Ursula Rucker at the Exeter Phoenix on Monday at 8pm. That’s £8 to you, unless you can get in for £6.
