Parking meter

March 17th, 2007

Just a week after councillor Tudor Evans confirmed he’s gonna plonk a Life Centre on Plymouth’s Central Park, news reaches PRSD that this year’s Love Parks Week will take place between June 16 to 24.

Regular viewers will remember we at the People’s Republic were overwhelmingly against last year’s Life Centre wheeze - primarily because of the news the facility would eat into ‘just’ two per cent of the park’s 200 acres. Hey, you do the math.

So hooray for GreenSpace’s Love Parks Week, which promotes the benefits of parks and encourages people to discover what they have to offer.

Scheduled activities taking place include hundreds of events in some of the UK’s best-loved green spaces, a photo compo and a conference celebrating community involvement in parks.

Perhaps someone could invite Cllr Evans along and gently remind him parks are visited by some 2.5 billion citizens each year.

Oh, and that the £26.4million cost of the Life Centre would be better spent protecting Central Park from future development, and, um, renewing Plymouth City Council’s discontinued contract with respite care organisation Kids. Y’know, just for starters.

[...] Jeez, we hate all this Plymouth Life Centre to-ing and fro-ing (click here to read our latest rant) - not least because we find ourselves siding with the Tories. [...]
