On the buses
We at the People’s Republic of South Devon love public transport, even if we don’t have the fare (thank you kind stranger), that’s why we’re so excited about the GOJO campaign, which was launched yesterday in Exeter with its very own nutter on the bus, comedian Tanyalee Davis.
With all this frivolity (they mustn’t have been waiting long in the rain) young people are being urged to use the buses and trains in the south west - at least until the summer solstice (so that’s one journey to north Devon, then) - particularly the thousands of young people who have difficulties in, or lack confidence using, public transport. A recent poll found that twice as many young disabled people said they lacked confidence using public transport than their non disabled peers.
According to the PR there are over 48,000 young disabled people aged 16-25 years old in the south west, that’s 10.4% of the population. They are being encouraged to consider the benefits of public transport and feed back their experiences on the GOJO website.
The only people not into public transport are those who’ve missed the bus, or prefer to cycle. if you want more on the campaign visit the site.
