EU climate change committee

MEPs are potentially more powerful than their Westminster counterparts - and if our Westminster reps continue to bring questions before the House on the voting in the Eurovision Song Contest their credibility will be completely shot (stand up Richard Younger-Ross, face the corner and put the pointy hat on - that isn’t why you were elected).

Which is why it’s great for the People’s Republic that we have some real heavy hitters over on ‘le Continent’ (Brussels and Strasbourg to be exact). Old Tory Euro MP (and good egg) Giles Chichester has been elected to the year-long European Union’s Parliamentary Committee on Climate Change, which is probably due to his role as chairman on energy and business committees.

But be warned, he is incredibly pro nuclear - start your campaign now.

(Footnote: Usually, the South West region would have seven MEPs. But it’s safer to say we only have five because it’s best to discount UKIP as a waste of space - in any situation.)
