Don’t make waves. Not here in the south west, anyway. The latest Energy White Paper doesn’t go far enough in offering financial support to offshore renewables or renewable heat. The bottom line is continued uncertainty over the financial viability of wave power in the south west – there’s enough sea, ain’t there? There’s the Wave Hub project just of Cornwall, ain’t there?
Wave device developers should set sail for Scotland and Portugal, where they’ll be offered more mullah for their musings.
Let’s leave the final word on the white paper to Matthew Spencer, chief exec of Regen SW:” A far reaching sustainable energy strategy has been agreed by the UK at a European level, but this paper does not consider how we are to meet its goals. Unfortunately it looks like we will need another energy review before government can answer the question of how we are going to deliver 20% of the UK’s energy from renewables.”
