Healthy debate

Oddly, the new Health Minister gave a speech about health the other day. Alan Johnson spoke about health inequality, which is something that seems to have been forgotten. And with some of the most deprived areas in the country in the PRSD’s manor, and with the constant threat to rural health services and opening hours, aging populations and threats to the workers in the NHS itself it’s about time these issues were taken seriously.

But as Martin Rathfelder, director of the Socialist Health Association, said: ‘Ministers have said this sort of thing before and then been deflected by the problems of managing the NHS. We need to do what we can to raise the issue of health inequality as something which needs to be tackled by the whole Government, not just Health.’

Oh, and if you want to read the speech, it’s here, yes it’s long, but you can dip into it while you wait for your Facebook gift to come through (Check us out on Facebook)
