The LunchBox #3
Most of us will have heard it said that money, or the love of it, is the “root of all evilâ€. And looking around the world today (banking crisis? Did you say banking crisis?) one cannot help but be struck by the truth of that remark.
Well, a new initiative aims to help move us all away from this particular evil, by creating a “free economyâ€, where services are exchanged not for money, but just for the sheer love of it! And funnily enough, this great new venture can be found at just for the love of it.org.
According to the Bristol-based founder of the site, Free Economy is “about sharing the skills you’ve learnt throughout your life and learning those you haven’t. It’s about helping others and providing an opportunity for others to help you. Freeconomy allows people to make the transition from a money-based and community-less society to more of a community-based and money-less society, and to share the land they don’t need or can’t use to facilitate a local food community.â€
It can only be hoped that the good citizens of the People’s Republic of South Devon sign up for this project in their droves. Comrades, there is such a thing as a free lunch! The revolution starts here.
