Look to the soil
Posted by Cptn
In the environmental debate about carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, the amount of C02 coming from soil erosion has been under scrutiny (yes, you know how that subject rages).
CO2 from soil erosion? We hear you cry. Yup, quite literally a carbon footprint (tee not very hee).
Research from Exeter University - among others - has found that argicultural soil erosion is not a source of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
Professor Tim Quine of the university told the PRSD: ‘Our results show that erosion control should be pursued for its environmental and agronomic benefits but should not be used to offset fossil fuel emissions. Soil erosion is not the silver bullet for offsetting the ever-increasing emission of CO2 to the atmosphere.’
So now you know, and it’s something to bring up at the cheese course of your next diner party… unless you want to talk about the environmental impact of cheese, but that’s another story.
