The poor are paying

black hole

The beauty of the Devon can often belie the pockets of poverty. And poverty costs. Here’s the link the report in the Guardian about how being poor has that extra price. The extra charges for metered utilities is just one of the issues. It used to be called the poverty trap, but maybe we should think of it more as a black hole.

UKIP roll call costs

posted by Cptn

Euro money

Having a go at UKIP can become tedious – there’s a certain ‘fish-in-a-barel’ mentality to spotting the holes in their raison d’etre – so it’s always nice when other people join in.

Here’s what South West MEP Graham Watson’s office sent through:

“MEPs from the United Kingdom Independence Party added £25,000 to the cost of the European Parliament’s business this week by demanding roll-call votes to record every vote held. These votes cost £300 each, bringing the total cost to the taxpayer to over £25,000.

Commenting on this move, South West MEP and EU Liberal Leader, Graham Watson said: ‘Once again, the anti-Europeans have shown what a waste of time and money their presence in Strasbourg is. I hope the voters will boot them out at the elections in June next year; by doing so they will save us all money.’ ”

We will just add that they are a waste of space in plenty of more places than just Strasbourg…
