Not content with walking tall in the city’s art scene, Gallery Terracina, Exeter, is taking a stand on science.

The gallery will host an open public event called Science in the Dock, Art in the Stocks: Convex/Concave on Wednesday March 12, and will feature experimental filmmaker Tony Hill and expert in animal vision Dr Julian Partridge.

It’s all part of the Economic and Social Research Council (that’s ESRC to those in the know) Festival of Social Science Week and is organised by Egenis, the ESRC Centre for Genomics in Society, based at the University of Exeter.

Who’d have thought that the Genomics in Society people would have an artist in residence, but they do and this is what said person, Deborah Robinson, told the PRSD: “Convex/Concave will bring together artists and scientists to share ideas about vision and perception and to engage with one another’s work and methods of representation.”

It kicks off at 1.45pm with a showing of a short film by Tony Hill, and will continue throughout the afternoon and evening with talks and further film showings, interspersed with lively debate about the relationship between science and art.

Doors open at 1.30pm and the event runs until 8.30pm. Admission is free and no booking is required. People are welcome to attend for the whole day or just a session or two. Refreshments will be provided.
