Social and enterprising

We love social enterprises – we are one, of course – that’s why it’s great to hear that two social enterprises from the within the republic’s environs have been chosen to compete for a share of £500,000.
Plymouth Access to Housing (Path) plans to establish a social enterprise letting agency in the city, charging landlords competitive fees and creating an easier route into privately-rented housing for clients.
And Plymouth-based Shekinah Mission teaches bricklaying, plastering and art and craft skills to socially-disadvantaged people to develop their skills and help them back into employment, accommodation and independent living.
Huzzah to them!
Along with the lukka, the winner will receive mentoring and a two-day enterprse make-over. The 15 finalists will pitch their business ideas to a panel of entrepreneurs.
The competition is being organised by Spark, which is looking to social enterprises to combat homelessness.
The competition will take place at the end of May.
