Fed up of landfill?

South Hams Friends of the Earth will ask whether it is possible to live in the modern world without generating any landfill waste, on Tuesday, April 22 at the Methodist Church, at 8pm. The answer: ‘very nearly’.
Michael Rose has been working to reduce the environmental impact of lifestyle since the 1960s. He now sends the equivalent of one milk carton of waste to landfill every few months.
He has found ways to reduce, re-use or return packaging and other plastics, wood, metal and other materials not accepted by the normal recycling facilities; made arrangements with individual companies to return polystyrene and plastic packaging, and he’s even found ways to re-use the fluff and grit from his vacuum cleaner as loft insulation and potting-mixture filler.
After the Michael’s talk the meeting will consider ways to implement some of his techniques locally.
