The Barbican, home to a new jazz and blues festival

There they blow!

It’s a traditional nautical expression, and is being used in Plymouth at the moment, not only for of the school of schooners that are massing at the Barbican for Transat 2008 (the cross Atlantic race for yatchs). But also because plethora of performers for the Jazz and Blues Festival.

Free shows pepper the harbour in the day and at night the cool vibe is extended to bistro, bars and cafes. What an entree to the summer of events and activities throughout the republic.

Today you can catch the Dixie Blue Band, the Paul Harris Trio, Craig Milverton’s Jelly Roll, Louise Parker and The Half Quartet.

Tomorrow there are Vince Lee, The Unusual Suspects, as well as Rick Worthy and Tim Renwick.

The shows continue to May 11

Prices are either free or a fiver.
