Book review - Russia
June 26th, 2008
Sarah Clarke of The Torbay Bookshop reviews the latest releases.

A five-part BBC2 series on Russia, with Jonathan Dimbleby as the presenter and the author of a meaty tie-in is a no-brainer as far as I am concerned. In Russia, A Journey to the Heart of a Land and its People, the authors travels thousands of miles from Murmansk to Vladivostok, immerses himself in modern Russian culture and encounters many different characters along the way.
Russia, Jonathan Dimbleby, BBC, £25

yes, but is it any good? must say that I did enjoy the TV series, although he seemed to be obsessed with chasing cheap thrills from getting people to speak out against the Russian authorities/government… he was entirely opposed to the authorities and their repression of the people [although clearly loving the fact that struggling against them made him a REAL journalist!] without really attempting to understand why they are [generally] so popular with the Russian people.
