In Broken, Karin Fossum has created a clever and engrossing novel, blending fiction and reality. A writer wakes one night to find a prospective character standing by her bedside begging her to start his story as her next project. She creates him, an unassuming man who works in an art gallery whose life is totally disrupted when a young heroin addict walks in and he gives her a cup of coffee. His life disintegrates totally with her demands. The whole story is quietly chilling and full of suspense.

If Kolo have been away in the USA for sooo long you’ve forgotten what they look like, then you could always check them out at the Cavern Club, Exeter, on July 17 (free entry before 9pm, they told us with a wink). Or you could just check out the video, although, apparently they’ve firmed up since then.
The Kolo boys have been back in Blighty for about a fortnight, but boy what a time they had in the Good ‘Ole US of, recording new material in the Rivergate Studio in Tennessee with Sean Gasawayand Chris Henderson and gigging throughout the nation - working their way through Georgia, Kentucky, Cleveland and New York.
How refreshing that the quintessentially English essence of quality songwriting is still appreciated in the Colonies. Maybe you can see what Christopher Hitchens sees in the place.
