The lost bank holiday

August 25th, 2008

posted by Cptn

If you’re wondering what to do this bank holiday, then you can keep wondering. A search revealed.. err… nothing other than the superb line up on offer at Oddfest (Oddicombe beach from noon).

So much for those much-lauded events sites, and so much for the Express & Echo’s claim that tourist Euros are now swelling the coffers - what do they do when they get here? Take the bank holiday off? Now we know there’s the Oddfest, with even more top bands added to the line up. Here’s Memo live at the Torquay Oxjam, 2006.

Oh, and there’s sheep-shearing at the Lustleigh show.
• Or, you could make up headlines for the local press - there’s no beating this pithy, witty headline from the Herald Express, oh, we’re being saracastic

Just come back from Oddfest and the bands were really good, so well done to all. It’s great to know that there’s so much up-and-coming talent in the Bay. However, the only way we knew about it was through the People’s Republic site. We saw nothing in the Press and no posters. Amazingly we did speak to one of the Torbay Council staff on duty who said - we kid you not - that “It wasn’t advertised in case it encouraged a lot of people to turn up”! We know that Torbay Council get a bit worked up about combinations of young people, popular music and beaches -and with no involvement of Agatha Christie - but local bands do deserve more support. So congratulations to all involved and for the People’s Republic for breaking the news embargo,

      Kevin & Jackie
