Devon tree skills on show for National Tree Week

posted by Cptn

Traditional wood craft skills were on show in a Woodland Craft and Activity Day at Decoy Country Park, Newton Abbot yesterday. There were demonstrations of traditional wood turning and broom-making, and you could build your own bird-box or customise your own walking stick, with wood sculptures up for grabs in the raffle – all either free or for pennies.

It was all part of the woodland activities to celebrate National Tree Week, which runs until December 8.

Also part of National Tree Week, MP Nick Harvey will visit West Buckland School, Barnstaple, today, to plant the first of its 960 native, broadleaved trees as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations – a project the schools hopes to extend to its partnership Agoro Oyombe Secondary School in Kenya.

• If anyone knows of any other Tree Week activities, get in touch, the only other info we could kick up we culled from The Tree Council.
