Red Ape gets the Proximity Effect show swinging at Plymouth Arts Centre today at 6.30pm, a ‘daring’ (artspeak for kooky and intriguing) programme of events, which runs until January 11.
On the smorgesbord of stuff going on is arm wrestling by Ray White (anyone who’s seen Over The Top knows that arm-wrestling-art knows no bounds) a performance by Grimmer & Steele Trust, as well as three artist-led project from Pilot, U:1 studios and new work by Café Conrete.
But if you’re wondering what to do to while away your Saturday, join those ready-for-anything pair that are Low Profile as they take notes on preparedness from MacGyver during their MacGyver’thon – 18 hours of MacGyver (we’re guessing the complete UK release of the show) from 6am to midnight.
Proximity Effect also includes the launch of Songs From the Dog Watch, a collaboration of onec, the Plymouth Music Collective, and Plymouth bands, commissioned by Plymouth Arts Centre. Contemporary Plymouth combos take turns with traditional sea shanties on a vinyl LP in what is “an emotive mix of traditional and self-written songs of a nautical theme, highlighting the range of musical talent that is evident in Plymouth”. But don’t let that put you off. (We’ve got our hands on a copy, so expect a review.)
You can pick up your own copy from the onec site, and you might also be able to pick up a boarding pass (£5) to the albums launch boat party on Saturday, December 6.
• Find out more about the artists involved at Plymouth Arts Centre in the latest exciting exhibition, Proximity Effect, by joining a lunchtime guided tour. Exhibiting artist Mark Greenwood, from Red Ape, leads the guided tour of the exhibition on December 9. On December 16 onec lead the tour and discuss how to collaborate openly with people. Both tours start at 1pm. For more information, call Caroline Mawdsley on 01752 206114
