Ever feel like you’re swimming against the tide? We’ve got the low down of all the South West councils with are providing free swimming for the over 60s and under 16s.
In all, 12 South West councils signed up to offer free swimming to both age groups and another 20 will make swimming free for just the over 60s. And according to our research, those councils that will offer free swimming to both age groups also stand to benefit from a further £25 million capital challenge fund in both 2009/10 and 2010/11 to spend on improving pool provision.
Of course all this would not be possible with out the 2012 Olympics. It is a lasting legacy of London 2012, they say. Rolf Harris waving his toes at you – now that’s a lasting legacy!
The following South West Councils have signed up to offer free swimming to the over 60s and those aged 16 and under:
Bristol City Council Swimming
North Somerset Council
Plymouth City Council
Gloucester City Council
Council of the Isles of Scilly
North Dorset District Council
North Wiltshire District Council
Purbeck District Council
Salisbury District Council
Taunton Deane Borough Council
West Dorset District Council
West Wiltshire District Council
The following South West Councils will offer free swimming to the over 60s only:
Bath & North East Somerset Council
South Gloucestershire Council
Swindon Borough Council
Torbay Council
Caradon District Council
Carrick District Council
Cotswold District Council
Exeter City Council
Kerrier District Council
Mid Devon District Council
North Cornwall District Council
North Devon District Council
Penwith District Council
Restormel Borough Council
Sedgemoor District Council
South Hams District Council
South Somerset District Council
Stroud District Council
Tewkesbury Borough Council
West Devon Borough Council
