Local transport plan wins praise from government office

posted by Cptn

With bus passengers on the increase, miles of cycle routes planned, and more than 5,700 people registered on the Carshare Devon website, the Government Office for the South West has praised Devon County Council’s Local Transport Plan.

In a letter to the county council, the Government office particularly praised the 89 per cent of schools in Devon that now have travel plans that are promoting healthy and more environmentally friendly ways of getting to school (that would be the groundshaking ideas of walking, cycling and taking the bus, we reckon – although the use of Space Hoppers may well have been mooted).

Also, 95 per cent of Public Rights of Way are designated ‘easy to use’.

If you were one of those 23.9 million passengers on Devon buses between 2007/08, you walk to school or you share your car, as just a few examples, give yourself a pat on the back.

The epistle also mentioned: Devon County Council’s other achievements in being awarded Beacon Status for Road Safety in 2006 – 2007, Transport Local Authority of the Year 2006/07 National Transport Awards (NTA) 2006, a winner of the Green Apple Award for the Barnstaple Bypass in 2008 and Highly Commended in the National Transport Awards (NTA) award for Walking and Public Realm 2008.

Well done them.
