Torquay Town Hall to be a £9 million community centre

posted by Cptn

Torquay Town Hall will become a super £9 million centre of community activity, according to the council’s latest decision on its develpment.

The idea is to turn the 109-year-old Grade II listed building, already home to community-type events, such as the weekly flea market, into a ‘£9 million centralised Civic Hub’.

It’s a step back from the more corporate £23 million proposal, and could include the much talked about community arts centre for the Bay. But according to the Herald Express, ‘it is hoped the remainder of the development proposed behind the town hall will be carried out at a later date as a Mayoral Vision project’.

Torbay Council has apparently told organisers at the town hall ‘it is committed to keeping the hall at the centre of community activities and increasing the number of groups using it’.

• The mayor’s vision will prepare Torbay for the future. Discuss.

Whoah there Captain!!!

My last comment was removed.. it was meant to be satirical and I thought that was blatantly obvious. I linked to a website for the "Leonard Nimoy should Eat More Salsa Foundation" for Chrissakes. Surely that was a giveaway?

Guess this truly is 'The People's Republic', after all. Will you be campaigning for the "one child rule" in South Devon, too? How about we all go and f**k Tibet?

Sheesh. Another reason to be cheerful. My favourite local-interest website runs a nice line in artistic censorship. Balls to it.
