Not Bad For A Girl: Katie Marie gets some naff gear

It seems as though the German snow followed me back to the UK! It was wonderful to open my door and see snow flakes everywhere! I popped up to the moors in the after-noon and it was stunning up there.

So the highlight of my week? I bought a new piece of equipment for my studio! ‘Is it a super dooper expensive guitar Katie?’ I hear you cry… erm… well no, not exactly…

People who know me will tell you I have a bit of a soft spot for old or slightly naff gear – or anything that has been shoved into a corner and forgotten!

So I happened to be driving past a secondhand music shop that I frequent now and then, and made the mistake of deciding to just ‘pop in’!

No sooner had I walked through the door than I spotted this rather lonely looking keyboard staring at me with doey eyes:

It’s a Casiotone MT-100, and as soon as I picked it up the guy in the shop smiled and said: ‘I had a feeling you’d like that one!!’

He let me plug it in and have a go, and I fell in love with it instantly. It really has the most awful beats and sounds you can think of, but it’s packed full of a unique Casio-style charm. With such sounds as ‘Cosmic’ and ‘Funny’ and its very own graphic EQ, there was no way I was leaving the shop without it!

It’s currently my new best friend at home and sits on my sofa ready for me to goof about on at any given moment!!

My challenge for the next week is to see if I can come up with a song featuring this keyboard in someway… I’ll let you know how I get on.
