Having George Alagiah at a banana-eating world record attempt offers the proceedings a sense of dignity they might not otherwise have. The challenge takes place on Friday, March 6 and is part of Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs from February 22 to March 8 throughout the county.
Other celebrities, in the Fairtrade world at least, taking part in the fortnight are Arsene Sourabie, a dried mango producer from West Africa, and Riziq Abu Nasser, a Palestinian olive farmer. They’ll give talks around the county about how Fairtrade offers people the chance to trade their way out of poverty.
There will also be a visit from a group of Colombian coffee farmers, who will attend the launch by the Co-operative group of a new school resource pack on Fairtrade to talk about how Fairtrade has helped their communities.
