Torbay’s potential municipal property deals heat up

There’s a whirlygig of potential property deals going on in Torbay (credit crunch, what credit crunch?). No sooner have the plans for the Assembly Halls at Torquay Town been published, than mayor Nick Bye’s looking into buying the Crossways shopping centre in Paignton. Does he like the idea of an arts centre so much, he wants another two of them?

No doubt the (delayed) sale of Oldway Mansions will go some way towards the mass of funding (built around £162 million grants and borrowing) that that is fueling the Bay’s spruce up.

And it doesn’t need to rely on Agatha Christie (Greenway is newly refurbished) or the pink pound to pull punters in, there’s a new agency set to promote South Devon, reassuring called Visit South Devon.

Phew, and there’s us thinking we might have to worry.
