Now look – this is getting silly. There we were feeling guilty about poking fun at the Express & Echo’s streetlight obsession, and they go and print another streetlight story. Are we missing the joke or something?
The latest tale of woe comes from Shakespeare Road, Wonford, where apparently four lamps have been on non-stop since early February. So that’s what, six weeks?
Ivor Hayward, who has lived in nearby Chaucer Road since 1974, said: “I have never seen anything like it. First of all the lights all went out and it took about three weeks, lots of calls and our local councillor to get them fixed.
“After that, the lights in Shakespeare Road never went off and they are still blazing away today.”
Truly, it never rains but it pours.
A Devon County Council spokesman, no doubt thoroughly fed up with calls from the E&E, sighed: “Southern Electric recently changed their systems at the sub station and a few streetlights will now need either a light sensor fitted or the lantern changed to work properly again.
“We have ordered the equipment for this and it will be fitted at the beginning of April.”
God, we’re hating ourselves for even repeating any of this. But thinking about it, the light outside PRSD towers flickers a bit – praps we should get on the phone to the UK Campaigning Newspaper Of The Year.
Or maybe you should let PRSD know if you need something repaired in your street. Post your sob stories below and we’ll phone up the fella at Devon County Council for you.
