A new Peter Randall-Page exhibition is launching at the CCANW on Easter Sunday, which is kinda what you might expect for the sculptor whose most famous piece has a more than passing resemblance to an egg. But this is a celebration the South West sited sculptures, and you even have the opportunity to sample a special tour around Peter’s workshop on the edge of the moor.
We’ve had a soft spot for granite grafting Peter since we popped along to his workshop and interviewed him for arts+culture magazine. Now to offer a geographic exhibitional ying to the yang of a major showcase at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (June 27 to early 2010), the CCANW is focusing on the work that is permanently sited in the South West.
We also managed to film Peter at the launch of the Granite Song exhibition at Burton Art Gallery, Bideford, and he took us through the local distinctiveness project at Drewsteignton, north Dartmoor, which was documented by Chris Champan’s photographs.
The new exhibition actually opens at the CCANW on Good Friday (April 10), but the launch on Easter Sunday has Marcus Vergette and his jazz band The New Noise grooving away on the outdoor stage up there in Haldon Forest.
Check out the feature in the Exeter issue of arts+culture.
As well as the exhibition, there’s a whole load of other events going on to celebrate the sculptor.
