The results of Exeter’s heat loss survey are online, so residents of the city can see straight away can find out how efficient their home is at keeping them snug.
Just pop along to the Exeter heat loss page, pop in your postcode and see the colour-coded map of heat loss from the aerial photography. The project was a suggestion Tim Hinton, through a consultation exercise on how the funds should be spent.
The survey, was carried out on the evening of Friday, January 23, measured the amount of infra-red radiation being emitted from each property.
The city-wide results found that 22 per cent of properties have a high heat loss value, 67 per cent of properties have a medium level of heat, and the remaining properties have a low level of heat loss (or the people were out on the night of the survey).
Cllr Kevin Mitchell, Exeter City Council’s Lead Councillor for Environment and Leisure, told the PRSD: “There are a significant number of households in the city that are paying higher fuel bills than necessary due to poor insulation and we hope that the results of the survey will encourage them to insulate their property.
“There are a range of grants available for loft and cavity wall insulation for people on all incomes, including, for a limited period of time, free insulation for Exeter residents over 65 and for households on low incomes. In the current financial climate this can be a real help to householders by reducing fuel bills by up to £365 a year.”
People can find out how much heat their property is losing at the heat loss survey page or by telephoning 01392 265669. Impartial advice and information about grants for loft and cavity wall insulation and on how best to reduce heat losses in the home is available from the Energy Saving Trust advice centre on 0800 512 012.
