Green Party of South Devon to field 19 candidates in county elections

The Green Party of South Devon is fielding 19 candidates, one for each seat in the Teignbridge and South Hams districts, in the forthcoming Devon County Council elections on June 4.

The candidates include 11 women and 8 men.

Lydia Somerville, Green Party coordinator, said: “This is testament to a real mood for change and a desire for people to become reconnected with locally relevant grass-roots politics.

“Many have lost faith in the ‘business as usual’ policies of the three larger parties. It is clear that people’s real needs and concerns with respect to the environment, transport, housing and economics are not being addressed.

“The Green Party is determined to change politics and introduce fresh ideas to meet the urgent challenges the people of South Devon face.”

The Green Party election campaign will be launched on Saturday, May 2 with a parade up the main street of Totnes leaving the Plains at 10.30am and terminating in Rotherfold Square.
