Exeter-based charity Dream-A-Way, which sends disabled and seriously ill people on holidays and trips, raised a record fundraising total of £133,173 in 2008.
Founding chairman Jeff Merrett said the amount was significantly more than the charity, which he set up in 1993, had ever raised in one year and it was down to the hard work of dozens of volunteers.
He told thisisexeter: “Since the very beginning we have always tried to keep the fun in fundraising and offer value for money to our sponsors and supporters.
“Our achievements continue to surprise and delight me but our small band continue to exceed our expectations.”
Dream-A-Way, which caters for seriously ill and disabled South West residents of all ages, has sent people on holiday to Disneyland and taken coach loads of people on day trips to see pantomimes.
It also has six caravans at Exmouth’s Sandy Bay, which it allocates to people for a break.
A seventh caravan will be opened in May with a ceremony at the park led by Charlie Thomas, an 82-year-old charity stalwart and now trustee.
Meanwhile, Gill Freeman, trustee and events co-ordinator, is busy organising the charity’s Mid Summer Ball at Sandy Park, Exeter, on Saturday, June 20.
