Not Bad For A Girl: Acoustic gig at the Barrel House, Totnes, a success

Katie Marie the gig at the Barrel House, Totnes, was so good, another one is planned (although not just yet – there’s the Cheltenham Jazz Festival first)

You probably know (because I’ve been going on about it for the past month or so) the Acoustic gig, which I was organising at The Barrel House, Totnes, was last Sunday, and I’ve been seriously plugging it like a crazy plugging person –  which I’m happy to say, paid off. Loads of peeps turned out and we had the most amazing evening.

This is the first gig I’ve organised and promoted, and obviously I was very aware that I could be doing all this work and still no-one could turn up. I did have a target figure in my head of 50 people, as I thought this would be a realistic amount to come along. But in the back of my mind I was ever so slightly scared that the room could be empty.

I decided the best way to view it was that it didn’t matter how many peeps were there, it’s rare that Marnie, Dan and myself get to do a gig together and it was a real treat for me to be able to do that :)

But fortunately enough by 8.30pm there was a line of people waiting to come in and by the end of the evening we had managed to get in just over 50 peeps! Result!! We had oooodles of fun and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere.  As this one went so well we’re planning on organising another event in a few months time (so I’ve got time to recover from this one!!).

I was amazed how much time it took to promote just ONE gig! All the phone calls to various radio stations and newspapers, all the online promo and then there was all the posters and flyers that got dished out.

I do have to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped to promote this gig in one way or another, all your support makes such a difference and to a little DIY muso like me it just blows my mind how much you guys want to help and please believe me when I say it definitely doesn’t go unnoticed!

Also a BIG thanks a lot if you came along – hope you had as much fun as we did.

We did have an after-show party to celebrate which consisted of much tea-drinking and playing on the Wii until 4am (yeah I know, rock n roll ay? lol)

Generally speaking it’s been a busy old couple of weeks – I’ve been out gigging nearly every night which is wonderful. Also last Tuesday I did a pre-recorded set for John Hogarth’s show on Palm FM, which was played last night (thanks a lot if you tuned in and took a listen btw). I do really enjoy doing radio stuff, it’s the kind of thing that I used to dream about as a kid and no matter how often I do it I still get a real buzz from going into the studio and getting asked random questions and then playing a live set, really kewl

I’d best finish up this cuppa and get my stuff together ready for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. I was originally booked to play at the launch party but I’ve now been offered a last minute slot at a place called The Beehive – so it’s going to involved lots of running around from one place to another! Will let ya know how it all goes, have a great week.
