Despite its public stance, I would still define Libertas as part of the Anti-EU/Euro Sceptic fringe. Its UK party leader Robin Mathews said about voting Libertas:

"It sends a very clear message to those unelected elites and bureaucrats, who seek to daily interfere in our lives more closely, that this cannot go on without proper accountability. The EU needs to change. Libertas believes in a strong Europe but also believes unless democracy is at the heart of that we'll never be able to deliver".

Libertas, following its anti-federalist policy, said it would continue to send a "clear message" that the Lisbon Treaty was unacceptable.

I guess that, while most people support the idea of "more democracy in the EU", we need to know exactly what that means. From their track record of opposing the Lisbon Treaty in Ireland, their sometimes questionable tactics in doing so, and the current targeting of their recruitment and publicity at UKIP rather than the supporters of the main parties, their political orientation suggests the right, rather than the left.

Kevin, I'm not sure where you get the idea that Libertas are an 'anti-EU' party. Libertas are, quite unashamedly, in favour of the European Union and its candidates and leaders have said so on numerous occasions.

News about the unraveling "moderate" facade of the BNP from the Guardian.

Further causing a potential split in the fringe vote could be the "Katie Olivia Hopkins Independent" party, the sole candidate being... Katie Hopkins.

This is the same Katie who got to the final three in BBC1's 'The Apprentice' in 2007, and who went on to briefly appear in 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here'. Her political views on the European Union aren't clear at this stage, though from her past comments she has clear opinions on viewers of TV shopping channels, maternity leave, the overweight and people called Mavis or Derek. Katie is able to find the time to go campaigning, as in 2007 she was dismissed from her Met Office job as she didn't meet the required standards to complete her probationary period - her confessions about her private life being a factor.

The anti-European bloc does seem to have splintered more than usual with (on the Left) No2EU, and (on the Right) the BNP, UKIP, & Libertas.

The Christian Party may also further fragment the conservative vote with their platform which includes: a "Mind Pollution Levy" on 18 Certificate Films, DVDs, CDs, video games and naughty magazines; changes to the Welsh flag to remove the red dragon (it's a satanic symbol); a science curriculum which should "reflect the evidence of creation/design" in the universe; and discouragement of the practice of addressing women as Ms.

Ironically, in view of the Party's view that sexual relations should be the preserve of married heterosexuals, their leader, the Revd George Hargreaves, wrote and produced 'So Macho' for Sinitta, which was very popular in the gay club scene.
