Not Bad For A Girl: Katie Marie's week full of musical adventure

Katie Marie chills out to Mad Dog Macrae at the Dartmouth Music Festival

Well hello there peeps! Hope you’ve had a wonderful week, as usual I’ve had a week full of various wonderful musical adventures.

This Saturday was the first Acoustic PM show where I not only had a whole hour , but listeners were able to text in too! Yay!

I honestly didn’t think I’d have any messages on the first week of giving out the number, but I was dead chuffed with the number of people who texted in, what a great start. Marnie kindly came along again and we played some songs live in the studio. Giles was also on hand to help with clapping and putting my new mobile onto silent. (Yep, I gave out the number to listeners and then when Marnie & I started playing a live song it was beeping away like a goodun’!!).

After the show we decided to head off to Dartmouth Festival, as for the first time in bloomin’ ages I had a Saturday night off! Marnie and I had been gigging in Dartmouth the night before and didn’t get a chance to check out any of the live music going on as we had to head off and play our own gig, so it was nice to be able to pop back and check it out.

We had no idea who was playing on the main stage, but I was really pleased to see that it was Mad Dog Mcrea, who I’ve heard so much about but have never had a chance to see. They played for well over an hour-and-a-half non-stop and were by far the best band I’ve see in ages! We had such an enjoyable evening and I was dead chuffed that I finally got to see them, if you’ve not been to see them yet I highly recommend that you check them out asap as they really are brilliant!

On Monday I had to head on up to BBC Radio Devon with Dan (Crisp) & Marnie to meet up with presenter Kev Hutchings and pre-record an interview and live set. It was really lovely to do an interview with Dan and Marnie there as it made things a lot easier and much more fun. After we’d done a spot of jibba-jabbering we headed up to one of the studios and each recorded one of our own songs. As always it was lots of fun and will be broadcast this Monday – so hope you can tune in and take a listen!

Then this morning I had yet another radio set to do for the guys who present The Totnes Monster show on Soundart Radio, they gave me a bit of a scare while we were broadcasting as they requested a Crash Test Dummies song which I quickly had to work out over a couple of CDs they
were playing lol But as usual I just about managed to blag it!! ;)

So this week I’m busy planning my set for this Sunday’s gig @ The Voodoo Lounge in Exeter Phoenix, I’ll be playing a 30min set before Mr Crisp gets up on stage to do his funkey thang (and of course I’ll be swapping my guitar for a set of drum sticks!). The Voodoo Lounge is a really wicked place to play so I’ll really looking forward to playing :)

Anyways I’d best crack on, as I’m spending the day catching up on e-mails and posting off CDs, hope all’s good with you and I’ll see ya next week!
