Out-going South West MEP and Conservative PPC for Tiverton Neil Parish hasn’t quite kicked the Euro-soil from his shoes and got in touch to tell us about the repeal of the EU’s wonky fruit and veg laws Stagecoach Devon has made a move to combat Twirlies (you know, the ones who stand at bus stops with their free passes and ask if they are ‘too early’) by extending the time the buses accept National Bus Pass holders to 9am (on the majority of Stagecoach services in Devon). Spare a thought for newly re-elected South West Lib Dem MEP Graham Watson today. Graham has been Leader of the Liberal group in the European Parliament for seven-and-a-half years and today he hands the mantle over. A new development of 15 affordable homes in Newton Abbot is underway, and to be named after former Teignbridge councillor and stalwart of affordable homes for local people, Brian Berman. Rural villages of fewer than 3,000 people could get between £100,000 and £400,000 for a new project if they apply before August 14. Not content with being the people’s choice of one of the happiest places to live, Teignbridge Council has also picked up an award from the prestigious local government magazine the MJ in the MJ Achievement Awards, bagging the Facilities and Asset Management Achievement of Year Award. The Transition Newton Abbot team has organised a walk to celebrate its anniversary, to kick off from St Leondard’s Tower, Wolborough Street on Sunday July 12 at 11am. First the Telegraph picks up our Twitter-gate story, now the Daily Mail has followed our example and dipped into the world of community-generated content – it’s great to be trail-blazer in the media world. Oh, the joy of South Devon – well, Teignbridge to be exact. Apparently the people who live there are among the happiest in the country, and they are especially happy with their bin collection. With temperatures set to rise again this week, offices and workplaces are sure to get even stickier and more uncomfortable – but you’re just going to have to stick it out because there’s no maximum workplace temperature. Everything’s going to be all white… the women of the Women are Revolting are holding an art action/flash mob event at Bedford Square, Exeter High Street, on 11am, Saturday, July 4. The wonderfully titled Dreamscheme project in Tiverton aims to get youngsters reaping the rewards community work. |
