First the Telegraph picks up our Twitter-gate story, now the Daily Mail has followed our example and dipped into the world of community-generated content – it’s great to be trail-blazer in the media world.
The Daily Mail has just launched its hyper-local Newton Abbot People site.
Like us they call for citizens to write the news they want to read. But unlike us they are the Daily Mail, and we’re a not for profit company.
Of course we joined their group – anything to oil to wheels of debate and engagement – but we’d much rather you got in touch with us with all your tales of immigration, political correctness gone mad, and how the world is going to hell in a hand-basket… wait a minute, that’s not us!
Just why the group would want to undermine its local newspapers (the Daily Mail trust through its Northcliff arm owns the Plymouth Herald, the Express and Echo and the Herald Express), particularly the interactive community iHerald site, part of the Plymouth Herald, is anyone’s guess. But anything that gets people more involved in what’s going on around them is ok by us.
