Prepare for meltdown: it’s never too hot to work – TUC calls for top temperatures for the workplace

With temperatures set to rise again this week, offices and workplaces are sure to get even stickier and more uncomfortable – but you’re just going to have to stick it out because there’s no maximum workplace temperature.

The TUC has been calling for maximum workplace temperatures to be in place, with the top temps being 30°C (or 27°C for physically demanding work).

Nigel Costley, Regional Secretary of the South West TUC, told the PRSD: “No-one is expected to work in sub-zero temperatures but overheated employees are meant to carry on regardless of how high the office temperature soars.”

If it was set to 30 deg no one would get an electrician to do any upstairs work all summer.
On a sunny day the temp in a loft can top 50 degrees (highest i have recorded is 58 degrees)
add onto that protective clothing and it gets pretty uncomfortable.
I would love to stop work at 30 degrees but as i am not a softie office worker i just get on with it.As do plumbers joiners etc.
Oh and who will foot the cost of all the employees sat at home.
