Not content with being the people’s choice of one of the happiest places to live, Teignbridge Council has also picked up an award from the prestigious local government magazine the MJ in the MJ Achievement Awards, bagging the Facilities and Asset Management Achievement of Year Award.
The council was also a finalist in the Energy Efficiency Achievement of the Year and (drum roll) Best Achieving Council.
The judges were impressed by the asset management that notched up £2.3 million for services, which was then reinvested – with £50,000 going to the Decoy BMX and Skate bowl facility, for example.
The project also identified 10 sites for affordable housing in the district, which could see up to 60 new homes in Bishopsteignton, Buckfastleigh, Christow, Dawlish, Heathfield, Ideford, Newton Abbot, Stokeinteignhead, and Tedburn St Mary.
And some of the money goes towards freezing the the leisure and parking charges throughout the district.
The asset management programme has included the sale of Labrador Bay in Shaldon to the RSPB for use as a Cirl Bunting reserve and the £1 sale of land in Newton Abbot to Teign Housing for two affordable homes for wheelchair users.
Shame they couldn’t find anything for an arts officer though.
