What’s wrong with being called a Communist anyway? South Devon candidate’s mistake deemed ‘despicable’

What is it with South Devon Prospective Parliamentary Candidates? Not only has Lib Dem Sally Morgan ‘let off some steam’, but Newton Abbot Tory PPC Anne Marie Morris has been caught out claiming a candidate in the Devon County Council election was a Communist – heaven forfend!

Anne Marie’s apology wasn’t enough for Colin Authers, who stood as an ‘independent’ in Teignmouth for the county council election.

Of course, being tarred as a Communist is one of the worst things that can befall a free-thinking person, so Colin took his complaint further.

“As far as I am concerned a straightforward apology is not good enough. She overstepped the mark. To call me a communist is absolutely despicable,” he told thisisexeter, which probably has far more readers than Anne Marie’s blog.

But at least now we all know that Colin Authers is not now, nor has ever been a member of the Communist Party.

East Devon District Council did NOT give its voters a lesson in democracy regarding unitisation. The fight was against it and included printing a pre-paid postcard for everyone to send back if they were in favour of the status quo and absolutely no discussion of alternatives allowed – the presumption was that the electorate would want what the ruling group wants.

Why would East Devon want the status quo? Because a bunch of very, very unregenerated Tories has the district by the short and …
and wants to keep it that way.

Please, please vote Sarah Randall Johnson for Totnes MP!

Well it has lost its shock value, since the Berlin Wall came dowm; however it is against the law to call him a Communist (ergo something he isn’t), please see section 106 Rep.of the People Act 1983.
