Journalism and the People’s Republic of South Devon: the work experience view

During the week I spent on work experience with The People’s Republic of South Devon, who’d have known how many important issues we’d report on.

The enthusiasm within the organisation for keeping people up-to-date is really outstanding.

I’ve been taught all about how to change/edit images for any situation i.e articles, logos and many more.

Also, my opinion has been taken into account on numerous occasions and I have been quoted on what I think of different articles. The activity of being a journalist was also exciting – reporting and visiting different places to provide the public with information and news.

In conclusion, I had a great time working with PRSD, and would be happy to work with them again in the near future.

Oh, spare our blushes, but what our work experience person didn’t mention is that they also helped set up the PRSD shop on Cafe Press and designed our new t-shirt.

Sounds like you had a really useful work experience time. I've enjoyed reading your work.

My daughter is 15 and is, like you, very frustrated at the lack of opportunities to earn some cash. She also found getting work experience (both times) a complete nightmare, mainly because of all the H&S documentation - small businesses just haven't got the time to fill in the paperwork etc, etc.

We are told that the government has made getting work experience a requirement for students, but little is being done to help/encourage business to open their doors.

Good luck for a fantastic future in journalism, (if you want it!). Now you've visited PRSD will you also get the T Shirt? :)

Best wishes
Heather
