A Russian cameraman outside Claires nightclub, yesterday
The English Riviera has been visited by a Russian film crew shooting for Ih Nravy (Their Customs) – one of the country’s top travel shows.
The programme apparently attracts an audience of around a million viewers – which doesn’t seem that much out of a population of, what, 140,702,096? (That’s figure’s just off the top of our heads, mind.)
Still, it’s no surprise to us why they’re showing so much interest in the region. Why, Torbay must seem like veritable ‘home from home’ to those hard-drinking Russkies. Disease, drug abuse, poverty and depression… And Russia’s pretty bad too.
The crew stayed at the Grand Hotel, walked the Agatha Christie mile, rode the Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway, visited Torre Abbey, went up in the Hi-Flyer balloon, had a cream tea at Rose Cottage in Cockington, went to Torquay Museum, and visited the Cary Arms.
The camera crew then finished the evening in traditional Torbay fashion by getting stabbed. Or possibly not.
