The Exeter-based Women’s Running Network, which was first set up to motive beginner runners who wouldn’t normally choose to give running a go is the basis for the Run in England campaign.
Run in England wanted to draw on the expertise and insight of the Women’s Running Network, which began in 1998.
“The campaign is all about the normal person who feels they’re the wrong size, shape, age or ability to run, which mirrors the vision of the WRN,” Pauline Beare, co-founder of the Women’s Running Network, told thisisexeter.
The idea is to make running accessible to all regardless of age, sex or ability, and to get as many people running as possible.
The Women’s Running Network has expanded in groups throughout the country.
Pauline said: “I think at times over the last 11 years, some people have regarded us just as a group of middle-aged women who don’t know what they’re talking about.
“But the fact that we’re still going so many years later and expanded nationwide means we’re getting something right.
“I heard recently that a group has been formed up in Stockton-on-Tees in north-east England — you can’t get further away from Exeter than that.
